Cavite: A Historical and Modern-Day Tourist Spot

Introduction

Cavite, known as the ‘Historical Capital of the Philippines,’ holds the most important fort throughout the Spanish rule in the Archipelago. The day of revolution, the Cavite Mutiny of 1872 triggered off the emergence of the nationalist movement in the Philippines. For instance, when the Philippine Revolution broke out, Cavite became one center of the revolution, and Emilio Aguinaldo formally proclaimed the independence of the country from Spain in Kawit on June 12, 1898. Also Cavite has been one of the most significant bases throughout the American and Japanese occupations, while Corregidor Isles served as major strategical military base in the World War II.
